Paige Nelson
Hello – I’m Paige Nelson. I’ve been working at Taylor Box Company for over a year as a packaging specialist in the Hand Department. The Hand Department is responsible for hand wrapping and assembling small runs, but more often, the higher-end luxury packaging projects that are typical of our Portfolio Box division. These projects are special promotions, portfolios for well-known artists, books, prints, artwork, and photography. Often these projects are wrapped in premium materials such as leathers and books cloths which pose far more challenges than standard paper and coated wraps.
In this role, I use my creative skills through mastering our various gluing techniques and machines, setting up and using the automatic stay-tape machine. Then while wrapping, ensure the wrap is placed with precision and trimming, and boning to ensure all pieces are wrinkle and bubble free and the glue has adhered. When a project contains multiple components, such as a tray and three-panel folder, I will assemble the parts for the finished product, run quality checks and prepare for shipments.
Depending on the project’s materials and complexity, my job can be challenging. It is on me to make sure the project holds up to our strict quality standards.
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is finishing the first sample of a project before it goes into production and it’s approved by design and the quality team to move into total production! One of the most memorable projects was for a whiskey distillery that created a unique promotional piece, a wood structure wrapped in branded leather, with split front doors that opened to reveal a crystal decanter. The two side doors held an authenticity scroll, a crystal glass, and a crystal stopper. It was a challenging project, but once completed, I was proud of how well it came out.
Before coming to Taylor Box Company, I studied Liberal Arts at Dean College. Outside work, I enjoy organizing, interior decorating, fashion, painting on canvas with acrylic, and spending time with my dog Gracie.
