Press Packaging for American Drama Miniseries
National Geographic is a world-renowned leader in storytelling, photography, geography, and exploration. Their television channel launched one of their most ambitious ventures in scripted television and they needed a Press Package as exceptional as their reputation.
Design agency, MADE by X LLC came to Pusterla to produce press packaging for National Geographic’s groundbreaking miniseries “The Long Road Home”. The miniseries, based on Martha Raddatz’s bestseller, is about the 2004 Siege of Sadry City otherwise known as “Black Sunday”. The production of this miniseries was a massive undertaking, requiring the construction of one hundred unique buildings on a thirty-five-acre site; the biggest television set in North America at the time.
The packaging for this promotion reflects the many facets of the story. The durable Eskaboard construction gives the tray in a 2-panel style box its sturdiness which contrasts with the decidedly smooth feel of its battle gray exterior, thanks to 4-color Matte Film Lamination. The cover opens to unveil a compelling photograph from “The Long Road Home” featured on the cover of a commemorative book housed within. The book rests on a custom insert shelf lined in Prestige Suede paper paired with a ribbon pull to accommodate the contents.
Beneath the shelf, there is a tray with a stash of branded military-themed swag including a duffel bag, baseball cap, and a t-shirt. The shelf is removable, allowing for some extra interaction as the audience explores the box. This design offers several levels of engagement with rewarding content at each step in the experience.
